Halloween Horror painting October 2011

Impaled Vampire Queen at Sunrise

I'm painting this image in the spirit of Halloween. Should be done in a few weeks. This is a personal painting. What I like about this one is how Chiaroscuro it is. That means literally "light to dark". Sometimes referred to as Tenebrism. Tenebre means Darkness in Italian. Fitting! I also like how the Vampire Queen has her hypnotic gaze fixed on the viewer in a last-ditch effort to try to get them to rescue her from her grizzly fate, knowing it's too late and impossible. The vampire may look familiar to some. It's based on B movie star Soldad Miranda. She's known for her movies with Jess Franco, specifically Vampyre Lesbos, one of my all-time favorite films. That vampire hunter may look familiar too. Hmmmmm.
